The past few events in sports

I was a sports-head back in high school and early parts of college. I was always one of those people who chatted over scores and trades and draft picks over rushing the algebra homework just before the first bell rang.

I don’t have cable so I really can’t follow pro sports like I used to. And my, so many developments have happened these past few weeks that even browsing through Yahoo! Sports to get the story lines has been a bit difficult.

UEFA Champions League

Perhaps the grandest football tournament for clubs. And it’s AC Milan (Serie A) who gets to take the trophy this year. That’s after trouncing former champions Liverpool FC (English Premiere League). I’m an Arsenal (EPL) fan so I don’t really care much about the outcome. But I’m amazed how Liverpool has stayed strong over these past few years with their Champions League showings.

NBA

The Jazz and Spurs are battling for the West title and the Cavs and the Pistons battling for the East. I really don’t care much about who goes through but I’m somehow hoping that Cleveland makes it to the finals (despite being down 2-1). I’d like to see LeBron get tested in a Finals series. They’d have a tough hurdle with Larry Hughes out for Game 4. But if I am to place a bet, I’d place it on the Spurs. I have loved the Spurs as a team ever since the Admiral was there and now, Tim, Manu and Tony.

NHL

Lookie here, it’s the Anaheim Ducks (yes, the team formerly called Mighty Duck of Anaheim, guess why) scoring the opening win against the Ottawa Senators. Now being a Teemu Selanne fan (too bad he had a so-so showing with my Colorado Avalanche), I’m happy that he has a chance to get to raise the Stanley Cup.
