Site is back in business but very much disappointed

After almost a week of not being able to sort things out with my web hosting provider, my site’s fully functional again. I can now access my subdomains (which I use for the forums and my English learning blog) and my FTP. (What good is one’s site if the administrator can’t access it via FTP?)

But I’d have to say, this has got to be part of the whole collection of horror stories of people with (supposedly) the country’s top web hosting provider. Crummy technical support and false advertising (as of this writing my uptime tracker says: 85.7143% uptime contrary to their claims of 99.99%) can surely piss me off.

If this is just Pareto principle at work then I am very much disappointed.

Site downtime apologies

I apologize to the few constant readers of this blog. My web host crapped out again and this site was down for a span of more or less 72 hours.

I would have blogged on a few things over the weekend but thanks to crappy web hosting service that wasn’t meant to be. I’ll be busy the whole week and the only blogging I’ll be doing will be for LifeSpy and Autojab.

I’m still trying to resolve a few issues with whatever they did to my site. But I’d have to say that I am very dissatisfied customer.

Again, I apologize and thanks for dropping by.

Upgraded to WordPress 2.2

Finally took time off to upgrade this site to WordPress 2.2. I’m amazed at how seamlessly I got to upgrade from 2.1.3 to 2.2. I was a bit nervous that my plug-ins and widgets wouldn’t work especially with the widgets sidebar now integrated with the system. But lo and behold I just followed the SOPs, and it upgraded seamlessly. Amazing.

Team Sugoi is currently exploring a site design tweak for Sugoi Stuff so watch out for that one too.

Got me my own forums

To those who may have observed, I recently put up a Forums link on this site’s navigation bar. Yup, this site now has its own forums. Yey!

That’s after experimenting between phpBB and SMF (both being the leading free forums engine available). I first tried phpBB first since I’m a bit acquainted with the engine. But since I’ve put up the phpBB forums, I’ve been getting an awful lot of spam registered users. Then I tried tinkering with SMF, and I found that its admin control panel has a much better interface over phpBB. Not to mention SMF seems to be more secure with a default user authentication process. I still have to wait for spam users to show up, though. I hope there won’t be any.

Site redesign? Nah… Not yet

I’ve been meaning to create a more streamlined design for this site. With Blogging Pro releasing so many cool designs, I wanted to adopt one and customize it a bit. Haven’t really found one that fits this blogs personality yet. I tried customizing the Blogging Pro theme.

I finally disabled the fluid layout for this site to prevent the mucky CSS positioning when viewed in IE6. Come on guys, use Firefox!

Anyway, to those wondering if my Good Friday curse struck, good news for me, nothing happened. Maybe it’s because I practically went hermit yesterday. The less things you do, the less risks you expose yourself to.
