Survived my first day of teaching. English 30 might promise to be an exciting class given that I only have a few freshmen in the class. I have a lot of upperclassmen and by their reactions this afternoon seem to be outspoken and active, just the type of class I want my classes to be. Maybe it’s because of the shorter generation gap between out batches. I even have a former orgmate in my class. I wouldn’t say much about my English 1s but I think they’re filled with shy freshmen. Oh God, please spare me with unreasonable kids.

Am I that mean or are kids really that unreasonable. Since there’s a really high demand on English courses, all the slots for the GE subjects have been filled and there’s really no way to get a slot in a class other than to get the instructor’s prerogative. Being the dumb bastard that I am who met his classes on the first day even without the class lists, I was a victim of zombie hordes out for “prerog.” Take a zombie movie and re-dub the audio with “prerog” instead of brain and that pretty much illustrates what it’s like to be up front in an English GE class. Every minute there’d be a student barging in the class asking for prerog. Never mind if they’ve been unwelcome nuisances to my effort of explaining class rules and policies.

Just to be honest, the shifting dates of National Holidays. I never even got to raise the issue in my classes. It doesn’t feel like Independence Day and it’s supposed to be the National Holiday. If Gloria had balls, I think she should be castrated for confusing our children especially if we get kids growing up celebrating June 11 as our Independence Day which will not be an unlikely scenario.

Ahh… prerog.
At least GE ang tinuturuan mo. Di naman sila masyadong mangungulit nyan, unless graduating sila. Service courses (like Math 17, 53, 54, 55) are different. Naka-depende dun yung pagka-delay nila sa mga major subjects nila, kaya sobra silang magmakaawa. You should have seen what happened today in front of the Math Admin Office. At least 40 ang nag-aabang dun kung magkakaroon ng bagong section ng Math 53 at 54.

Yes, Ma’am Tina! Kids seem to be so callow nowadays. They were bitching about not getting English 30s. And yesterday at the department, there were 7 of them asking for prerogs. The staff told them to make a petition list. It’s like they only need 8 more people to join them. And what do they do? They left. Kids…
Anyway, good luck to both of us. I’ll be spending the whole day today making preparations for my English 1 class. I still have yet to compile a darned final reading list.
At least you’ll be teaching until your scholarship comes along. Ako, I’m still taking a course this sem and it’s going to be a killer. Bwahahahaha.
ugh! holidays and they’re wondering how come the kids these days doesn’t know what a certain holiday is for pfft!
It defeats the purpose of celebrating the reason behind the National Holiday, even if 3-day holidays boost local tourism.
At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if they move Eidul Fitri, Christmas and New Year just to accomodate longer weekends.

But what do some certain people do? They toss around the holidays, changing their dates for “efficiency†or something.
Well, for me at least, the events kind of lose their meaning when they’re being switched around. I mean, yesterday didn’t feel much of an independence day to me. It was just like any other no-class day.
Tsss. I won’t be surprised if one day, they choose to move Christmas to January 1st, so we would just be celebrating new year and Christmas in one go. :p (Wait, what if they move the new year’s celebration??)
