Pinoy “citizen journalism”, politics, and campaign period

J. Angelo beat me to this type of post. Bloggers and their crazy ideas. And here’s Angelo’s:

The concept is simple. I (probably along with a handful of other bloggers) will be writing about candidates, their lives, their political parties, and their platforms during this campaign season. I still have to decide whether it will be on my personal blogs (which have better coverage and readership), or a new site altogether. Now this wouldn’t be the standard press-release like postings. We’ll do it as bloggers do—with honesty, candidness and straightforwardness (with a dash of our own insights, of course). This makes for good new media coverage, no?

Well, I can’t claim to apolitical like Angelo (what’s the freakin’ difference between apolitical and non-political?) being involved in UP campus politics back in my undergrad days. If ever I’d write an article, I do have the tendency to give it some post-colonial criticism. Well, probably I would not too much on idealism or pessimism but I could anchor my writings on reality. (Yeah, that Philippine politics is screwed! Hehehe.)

Hey, Angelo’s right. Political blogging is big in the west. And we’re a democracy, right? We’ve got the right to free speech! It’s a collaborative effort amongst us bloggers. I mean, before spin doctors plague the Pinoy blogosphere, we could create an initiative amongst us. We’ve been trying to reach out to fellow Filipinos with our ideas, why not try to educate them on who are running (not much on who to vote, that’s biased) so we could all make wise decisions come election time.

Pinoy citizen journalism, here we go!

No doubt every avenue is being considered during this election, and cyberspace is definitely one of the highways that is growing in appeal.
