In a great turn of events in the Oscars, Martin Scorsese, after six busted nominations finally got his Oscar for The Departed.
I just hope this isn’t a pity-the-old-man type of commemoration. And Forest Whitaker won Best Actor too. Too bad Eddie Murphy didn’t get his.

I don’t think Eddie Murphy deserved to win. After watching DreamGirls, I was really left underwhelmed. Im still puzzled why that performance of Jennifer Hudson is drawing raves from all corners. I would’ve wanted Adriana Barraza or Rinko Kikuchi to win for Best Supporting Actress.
Scorsese’s award was well-deserved and a long time coming. I think Pan’s Labyrinth was the best film last year, hands down, but for some reason, it wasn’t nominated for Best Picture and it got upset for Best Foreign Film.

Oh well, such is the fate of Oscar nominees. I still think that they just gave it to Scorsese to give peace to an old man. Who knows when he’d die. And the Academy wouldn’t want to be labeled as the fools who deprived an old man due credit. Not that Scorsese doesn’t deserve it. He surely deserves one. But it’s THE Academy. And for most Hollywood pawns, an Oscar’s a ticket away from “mere” seven-digit salaries excluding the decimals.
